QUESTION:
I am a staff accountant at a Big 5 firm. I work very closely with a
manager who has made sexual advances towards me on several occassions. I
didn't know what to do so I submitted to him. We are going out of town for
business next week and I know he will want more.
Please help, "Mitch".
ANSWER:
Dear Didn't Know What to Do-
Have you tried saying NO? I hardly think that if you didn't know what to
do, submitting to your manager was the correct response. Even if you were
consenting to the relationship, this is not a healthy situation for you or
your manager. You may be jeopardizing both of your jobs, depending on office
policy. If you do not want to continue this relationship, tell your manager
firmly- NO. I would not travel out of town with him unless it is necessary,
and insist on separate rooms. If it continues to be a problem, contact his
manager or human resources. Sexual Harassment is a big no-no in the
workplace, and you do not have to be subjected to it.
