QUESTION:

I am a 30 year old CPA with 8 years of experience with no supervisory experience. I started out as a bookkeeper out of college (with an English degree) and moved through two other jobs to my current position as a
Financial Reporting Analyst for a relatively small public manufacturing company. My major strengths lie in analysis and computer applications. While don't know any computer languages, I often script macros for people
in my company and find that rewarding.

I'm at a loss for where my career path should take me and therefore what I should be doing to prepare. While I'm quite confident in the application of accounting principles to business, I don't think that I would find the work
of an Accounting Manager or Controller very challenging. I also don't believe that I'm well suited to supervising a large group of people. What can I do that would capitalize on my analysis and computer skills that is in a project oriented environment? I enjoy problem solving, but then want to move on to a new challenge. I don't mind some travel and definitely don't want to work for myself.

Any suggestions would be very welcome.

Thank you.
Jane

ANSWER:
Jane CPA.
Sounds like you have a strong mix of finance and computer skills.

There are many medium sized mfg and distribution firms that would be interested in training you to learn and manage their financial systems.

Look also at hi-tech mfg firms. Hopefully, you'll be able to move up quickly > and gain the the supervisory skills you need.
