We are seeking an Accountant I to join the staff at our Wilmington, DE location. Pepco Holdings, Inc. (PHI) is one of the largest electricity delivery and natural gas companies in the mid-Atlantic region. More than 1.8 million customers in Washington D.C., Delaware, Maryland, and New Jersey depend on PHI for their electricity and natural gas needs. We are seeking an Accountant I within the Controller’s Department that will support the PHI Disbursements Department. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Audit expense reports, to include review for policy compliance and correct accounting supporting documentation.

Upload Accounts Payable information into SAP for payment processing.

Prepare journal entries and input into SAP Accounts Payable related transaction, to include accruals.

Upload Accounts Payable information into SAP for payment processing.

Understand and support escheat process.

Perform analysis of financial statement variances, preparation of account reconciliations and internal control documentation.

Prepare account reconciliations and internal control documentation.

Scan documents to support document retention policy and paperless environment.

Other projects and assignments as provided by Management.

Required:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business or related degree OR the equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.

Knowledge of accounting responsibilities (e.g., journal entries, reconciliations, substantive testing).

Knowledge of financial statement variance analysis.

Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Knowledge of internal controls (for example, Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404, segregation of duties).

Basic experience demonstrating skill communicating financial information, orally and in writing, with others.

Experience demonstrating skill using PC-based word processing, spreadsheet and e-mail software.

Ability and willingness to work on multiple assignments/projects in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines.

Ability and willingness to work independently and accurately on multiple assignments/projects simultaneously.

Ability and willingness to work extended hours on a periodic basis (year-end, quarterly, monthly closing) as required.

Ability and willingness to travel to various Company locations as required.

Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Must successfully pass a Criminal History Records Check.

Preferred:

Certified Public Accountant, Chartered Accountant and/or Master’s degree in Accounting or Business.

Experience demonstrating skill monitoring costs to determine appropriateness and accuracy of accounting, capitalization and/or costing.

Experience demonstrating skill using database and/or presentation software.

Experience demonstrating skill using an enterprise resource planning system (for example, SAP) and/or scanning software (for example, FileNet).

Experience working in a regulated environment and applying FAS 71, SEC and/or FERC regulations.
