JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Reporting
-Assist in the preparation of MassMutual GAAP and Statutory quarterly provisions including tax adjustments for deferred acquisition costs, life reserves, general expenses and non-qualified separate accounts; analysis of prior year return to provision effect; preparation of GAAP and Statutory footnote disclosure.
Federal Returns
-Prepare assigned portions of MassMutual federal income tax return, including tax adjustments for deferred acquisition costs, life reserves, general expenses and non-qualified separate accounts. Complete separate return work papers for assigned entities.
State Returns
- Coordinate annual state income tax information request. Prepare separate company state income tax returns as assigned. Prepare unitary state returns and estimated tax payments.
Federal & State Audits
-Assist with federal income tax audit activity as assigned. Assist with state income tax audit activity as assigned.
Special Projects - complete special projects as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
Analytical - strong analytical skills with the ability to effectively identify and communicate potential tax planning opportunities or exposure areas to management.
Knowledge - ability to interpret and implement federal and state tax statutes, regulations, and administrative guidance.
Problem Solving - ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Request assistance in a timely manner.
Communication - strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to deal effectively with peers, as well as with other levels and areas of the organization.
Technology - strong computer skills, including advanced knowledge of Excel and working knowledge ERP-type reporting systems such as SAP. Oracle or PeopleSoft.
Education - Bachelors degree in accounting preferred. Advance degree in Taxation a plus.
Work Experience - 5 to 8 years experience in a multi- state corporate tax environment or life insurance financial reporting position. Insurance taxation experience is a plus.
