DESCRIPTION:  SENIOR ACCOUNTANT

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Manages the month-end close process, financial statement preparation, and corporate reporting
• Serves as the internal control point person for the Finance & Accounting department.  This includes Sarbanes Oxley, FINRA written supervisory procedures, regulatory procedures, and internal procedures
• Challenges the internal control environment and looks for opportunities to improve internal controls
• Maintains adequate policies and procedures for all finance and accounting processes
• Prepares general ledger journal entries
• Prepares schedules for auditors and regulators
• Responsible for monthly Balance Sheet and Income Statement flux analysis
• Supports forecasting process and commission analysis as needed
• Completes other responsibilities as necessary

 REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelors degree in Accounting
• Minimum of 5 years experience in an Accounting Department, preferably in financial services
• Experience and aptitude in writing procedures and reviewing internal controls would be important
• Advanced knowledge of Excel required.  Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Powerpoint considered a plus
• CPA and/or Broker/Dealer experience a definite plus
• SAP experience a definite plus.
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills; attention to detail
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Ability to work independently; ability to take ownership of assigned tasks and work through completion
• Some overtime required, especially at year-end and quarter-end close
• Ability to work as a member of a team; results oriented 

This opening currently resides in Springfield, MA.  However, as organizations and their structures evolve, locations may be reevaluated and position location may change.  We are looking for candidates who have flexibility between MassMutual's two locations:  Springfield, MA, Enfield, CT.
