DESCRIPTION: Director, Accounting Policy

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide Corporate Accounting Policy and technical support for investment businesses and provide guidance to the investment operations team to ensure compliance with new and existing accounting regulations
• Monitor FASB, AICPA, SEC, NAIC and other regulatory accounting developments
• Prepare accounting policy summary and analysis documents of new guidance for financial management throughout the Enterprise
• Review and interpret the impact of emerging accounting guidance and assist business partners to successfully develop and implement new processes and policies to comply with new accounting guidance
• Research GAAP, Statutory and other accounting authorities and document the analysis and accounting conclusions for significant transactions and interact with investment professionals and auditors as required
• Assist controllers department production and reporting teams quarterly and annual close periods

REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, CPA designation, auditing and investment experience strongly desired
• At least five years of relevant technical accounting experience demonstrating the ability to understand, interpret and implement technical accounting guidance
• In-depth knowledge of accounting principles and regulatory requirements including SSAP and GAAP
• Ability to articulate accounting guidance and issues in non-technical terms
• Candidate must possess effective communication skills, be detail orientated, have the ability to draw conclusions and meet tight deadlines
• Team player with strong work ethic
• Flexible and pro-active in a variety of situations

This opening currently resides in Springfield, MA.  However, as organizations and their structures evolve, locations may be reevaluated and position location may change.  We are looking for candidates who have flexibility between MassMutual's two locations:  Springfield, MA, Enfield, CT.
