DESCRIPTION:  CONTROLLER 

The W. M. Keck Observatory operates the world’s two largest optical/infrared telescopes located on the summit of Mauna Kea on the Big Island of Hawaii.  Reporting to the CFO, the Observatory seeks a seasoned Controller to ensure the integrity of its general, project and grant accounting ledgers.   Candidate will supervise staff and perform reconciliations & data analysis, and prepare financial reports utilizing an enterprise financial system.   

Minimum qualifications: Five-eight years experience in the areas of finance and accounting (including accounts payable and receivable, payroll processing, financial reporting, and external audits). CPA and Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, or related field. Three years managerial experience in developing, coaching, mentoring and training staff.  Project accounting experience very desirable. 

The following skills are required:  high level of computer literacy with very strong Microsoft Excel skills and a working knowledge of computerized accounting systems; detail-minded with excellent follow-up; ability to work independently; strong project and time management skills; ability to evaluate information and exercise good judgment in making decisions; highly proficient oral and written communication skills; high level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others; ability to maintain high level of confidentiality; and ability to provide excellent customer service.  

This is a regular position with a competitive, comprehensive benefits package including relocation assistance and private school (K-12) tuition support for dependent children. Salary is dependent upon qualifications and experience. The position is opened until filled. Employment is conditional on successful completion of drug tests.
