Primary Objectives:
This position is responsible for the overall consolidation of Thomson’s
financial results for the Strategic Business Units on a monthly basis and final
management reporting to the Thomson Corporation. Additionally, this position is
the main liaison with Thomson Corporate regarding all financial reporting
issues.
The Manager position supports all of the North American
Regional Service Center’s efforts related to financial integration of all
Thomson acquisitions. The role will report to the VP, Controller, NA RSC and
will work closely with SBU and NA RSC colleagues to ensure that financial
integrations for acquisitions are managed effectively and transitioned smoothly.
This role will interface directly with executives in the Global Service Center
(GSC) and with other Regional Service Center (RSC) executives.
Major Areas of Accountability:
Oversee the consolidation and reporting of the financial
results for SBU.
Coordinate and communicate with director and manager
level personnel at Thomson locations to ensure the timely, accurate, and
consistent reporting of financial information.
Ensure financial information is accurate and in
accordance with Canadian GAAP and Thomson policies and procedures. Ensure
timely reporting of these results to senior management and the Thomson
Corporation.
Interpret and coordinate accounting and reporting
processes as they relate to post acquisition reporting with all applicable
parties.
Monitor foreign currency translation.
Oversee the use and training of the SAS FM consolidation
tool.
Assist with the quarterly and year-end PwC reviews and
audit of Thomson.
Provide assistance during the Mid-Year Review and Annual
Planning Processes.
People management with the ability to retain, recruit
and develop a strong team focused on results and customer service.
Provide analytical support as necessary for clients of
the NA RSC and local management.
Manage Sarbanes-Oxley compliance for financial
reporting.
Requirements/Education and Previous Work Experience
Requirements:
Bachelors Degree in finance, accounting, business or a
related degree is required. CPA required and MBA preferred. Eight to twelve
years of direct, progressive financial experience including high level
interaction with corporate and business unit executives in a dynamic, high
volume business environment. Strong working knowledge of GAAP and financial
reporting required (international reporting preferred). Experience in both
finance and accounting in a global business operation is necessary. Strategic
operations experience in a multi-location, global operating environment is
necessary in this business-driven, customer-focused role.
Knowledge and Skills Inventory:
In-depth knowledge of accounting and reporting in a
global business operation with a high level of financial systems experience
Proficiency in establishing new client relationships and
effectively managing existing relationships to meet the financial and business
goals of the organization
Project management skills and the ability to manage
multiple projects with competing demands for limited resources
Results orientation and delivering is crucial to
establishing a reputation for high performance and customer satisfaction
Customer focus is key to success in this business
initiative and proactive communications to support the client base
Ability to retain, acquire and develop talent is a key
skill for building the RSC and the high-performance team needed to make it
successful
Resilience and the ability to manage through significant
operational change are critical to the success of this role. An understanding
of change leadership principles and how to improve effectiveness in
transitional periods through standardization efforts in systems and processes
Effective communications skills in both oral and written
forms with a competence in presenting in a professional and influential
manner. Ability to interface with all levels of the organization in an
effective manner
Innovation is a requisite given that this is an entirely
new business model and creativity will be needed to identify solutions in an
constantly evolving operation
Risk tolerance and the promotion of safe risk taking is
preferred
Proficiency in PC computer applications including Excel,
Word, and PowerPoint; SAP preferred
Ability to travel on both domestic and internationally.
