DESCRIPTION:  Senior Financial Manager

We are seeking a high-performance Senior Financial Manager for NYTimes.com’s Financial Services category, one of our top revenue-generating categories. This person will be  responsible for the development and implementation of financial process in NYTimes.com’s Ad Sales department.

The New York Times Company’s digital operations, which include #1 newspaper site NYTimes.com, Boston.com and About.com, is a top 10 network on the Web with more than 35 million unique visitors a month.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Work with sales directors, sales managers and finance department to develop, implement, and monitor all short-term (3 years) planning of ad department volume, revenue and expenses.

·         Manage a multi-million revenue and expense budget. Prepare revenue budgets as they relate to the overall site and by advertising category.

·         Oversee all financial activities of the Advertising Department. In close coordination with Finance department, be the point person for maintaining financial controls in accordance with GAAP and company policies, as well as fulfilling corporate reporting needs including: monthly forecasts, reporting and analysis of advertising revenue, volume, and expenses.

·         Supervise and control the financial commitments of the Advertising Department, including sales incentive plans and contests.

·         Manage the process that monitors advertising sales packages including rates and total package pricing.

·         Work with sales managers to develop and implement Advertising department’s performance metrics.

·         Work with product managers to manage margins while supporting value-based pricing.

·         Work with internal staff departments to develop and manage procedures and policies.

·         Develop effective relationships with senior directors of each of the advertising categories.  Assist them in the development of business plans that support the overall advertising strategy.


Requirements:

·         Undergraduate degree in finance and/or accounting. An advanced degree in finance, accounting or business highly desirable.

·         Five years of extensive financial and advertising experience with specific focus in the areas of pricing, contracts and credit. Online experience a strong plus.

·         Previous experience in working with a sales team to design or implement a tactical plan to grow revenue, market share and profitability, as well as develop key performance metrics.

·         Demonstrated ability to establish, implement and manage processes that support sales initiatives.

·         Proven team player. Demonstrates the understanding and value of collaboration in getting things done.

·         Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
