DESCRIPTION:Financial
Analyst/ Accountant
We are seeking a highly responsible Analyst to be responsible for all
accounting and financial reporting requirements of NYTimes.com (and the digital archive
distribution and R&D business units). This person will report to the manager of
finance.
The New York Times Companys digital operation; which
includes #1 newspaper site NYTimes.com, Boston.com and now About.com, is the 15th
largest network on the Web with nearly 30 million unique visitors a month.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintain a system of internal accounting
controls in compliance with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act.
Perform monthly
accounting closings including journal entries.
Prepare balance
sheet account reconciliations.
Prepare
variance analyses, review and summarize monthly results of business operations.
Become subject
matter expert for financial performance and trends.
Prepare monthly
revenue and expense forecasts and quarterly capital forecasts.
Coordinate
preparation, reporting and analyses of annual budgets.
Communicate
with operating departments to understand, research, and report on all business issues.
Prepare and
analyze various financial, profitability, and statistical reports for department
management, senior executives, and Corporate as needed.
Prepare
business plans for various initiatives in collaboration with product managers.
Monitor and
improve performance on business process metrics.
Review and
approve vendor invoices.
Respond to
internal and external customer ad-hoc requests as assigned.
EXPERIENCE:
CPA required
(Big 5 accounting preferred).
Minimum two
years of experience in public accounting and/or financial operations (website operations
experience a plus).
Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment and
effectively handle competing priorities.
Sound business
judgment, ability to work independently, and strong analytical, interpersonal, and
communication skills are all critical.
Strong computer
skills including Microsoft Office are required.
Knowledge of
Hyperion Essbase and PeopleSoft Financials a plus.
