DESCRIPTION: CONTROLLER
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
The University Controller is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the universitys accounting, financial reporting, accounts payable and student financial services functions. Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Finance, the University Controller is responsible for maintaining accounting records, overseeing all financial and management reporting, recommending and maintaining appropriate fiscal policies and procedures, monitoring budget performance, ensuring compliance with applicable federal and state laws, as well as University rules and regulations for internal accounting practices, recommending and implementing methods to improve efficiency of operations, and providing guidance in fiscal matters relating to the operations of the university. In addition, this position provides final review and management direction for the universitys annual financial report, state financial reports, and other financial reports for internal control and managerial purposes.
Qualifications
1.
Possession of a bachelors degree with a major in
accounting, management and/or finance; or equivalent combination of
experience and degree; Masters degree in business or public administration preferred;
2. Eight to ten years progressively responsible financial management experience, particularly at a large, complex institution;
3. Demonstrated leadership interpreting and applying federal, state and institutional fiscal policies, regulations, and reporting requirements.
The ideal candidate
will be experienced in evaluating and making
improvements in internal controls. The ideal candidate must
possess the following:
· Application of accounting and financial information system technology, including web-based applications, preferably Peoplesoft.
·
Superior skills in implementing continuous quality
improvement techniques and utilizing client involvement in assessing and enhancing
services.
Preference will be given to individuals with a CPA and to those with experience in higher education and experience with PeopleSoft. Previous experience working in a union environment is also highly desirable.
